GREETINGS FROM THE CRYPT

THE LAZY ASS BITCH RISES … to a number of new messages and recs in her inbox and guiltily wonders why she never received any notifications to the effect.

See, the story is… this bitch resubscribed to a quaint old game known as World of Warcraft last October.  Apologies all around, but seriously, it was hard to say no to flying cloud serpents.

I try not to make promises I can’t keep, so uhh… I will say that I will first respond to inbox recs, and then I expect that the surge in new fic after the premiere of Iron Man 3 will kick this blog into active mode again.

Yours truly,

Undead Ass Bitch

Bodyswap!

Bodyswap! (16574 words) by Zekkass

Summary:  Loki’s helping. Really.

Why It Kicks Ass

This solid, smartly written fic does a brilliant job of exploring both the physicality and literal consequences of a temporary bodyswap between our two favorite men, with impressively handled development for a oneshot.  Explicit.

coldcomfortflowers asked: So No One Told You by Kari_Kurofai on AO3. It's the first AU I've really fallen in love with. 27 chapters and counting

Ahh, yes… the epic-length Friends!AU with 2000+ kudos.  Sadly, after reading through the first couple of chapters, this bitch found that she couldn’t really get into it.  Part of it was the general lack of plot—which, she realizes, it wasn’t meant to have, but still.  The categorical introduction to the characters was a little off-putting, and then I didn’t love the characterization.  But again, this is coming from the bitch who is both picky and lazy.

Hard to imagine any Steve/Tony fans that haven’t at least heard of this fic yet, but if that’s you, and you love zany, happy crack, you can check out the AU that continues to delight thousands of fans here.

Ghost in the Wires

Ghost in the Wires (48292 words) by sororexitium

Summary:  When Steve moves into Avengers mansion he is caught up in strange coincidences. He walks behind an unseen ghost: a ghost who leaves empty spaces all around the manor. It doesn’t make sense, and it sounds crazy until he meets Anthony, a computer simulation programmed by Anthony Stark, who died two years ago. Then it just gets even crazier.

Why It Kicks Ass

There’s something melancholy about the idea of falling in love with someone from a distance.  This impressively ambitious fic is hauntingly lovely in all the right places, with a complete and satisfying resolution.  Rated M.

THIS BITCH WELCOMES YOU, thatswaggninja, WITH TWICE THE NORMAL OUTPUT OF ENTHUSIASM.

Special thanks to everyone else for taking a chance on my idea of good taste.  I would also like to refer you to the image above.

All The Leaves Are Brown (And The Sky Is Gray)

All The Leaves Are Brown (And The Sky Is Gray) (71078 words) by paxnirvana

Chapters: 9/?

Summary: (Just Pre Heroic Age) - The Avengers aren’t quite back together yet, things are still a little rocky between Tony Stark and Commander Rogers, and Tony’s slaving away at Stark Resiliant, trying to make a fortune again to fund everyone’s superhero habit, and stay on his best behavior for Steve, when Maria Hill calls him with a problem… an unidentified Iron Man suit has appeared in New York City. But it’s not talking.

Why It Kicks Ass

Here you will find fragile, misdirecting, Steve-avoiding Tony at his finest. Firmly situated in comicverse, but still accessible for movie fans, this is a deliciously gritty work-in-progress showing real promise. Rated M.

W.I.P.E.

W.I.P.E (57702 words) by tsukinofaerii

Part 1: Without Irony (28980 words) Rated T.

Part 2: Per Expectations (28722 words) Rated E.

Fandom: Marvel 616

Summary:  Sometimes, when a drive is completely broken, the only thing to do is wipe it clean and start over. When he wakes up, Tony has no idea who he is, or what he did to end up where he is. Depending on who he talks to, he was a villain or a hero, a genius or a degenerate. What he is now is still up for debate, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to have much time to figure it out. With a computer in his head screwing up and a country falling to pieces, options are getting limited. Steve The world needs Iron Man a lot more than it needs Tony Stark.

Why It Kicks Ass

This two-part series has everything that this bitch loves in Steve/Tony fic: compelling plot elements, tight pacing, grown-up characters with grown-up issues, interesting prose.  Tony’s POV voice is beautifully precise.  The Extremis angle is consistently, intelligently well-handled.  And dat UST.  Mm-hmm.  Don’t underestimate the T rating for Part 1: that shit set this bitch’s heart on fire.

For the foreseeable future, this is THE amnesiac fic, as well as a Top 5 personal favorite.  Comicverse, some Civil War knowledge required.

Thanks to hackle for the tip!

hackle asked: I'd like to suggest a few of my favorites for your consideration: "Sins of the Father" by thesecretmichan, "Without Irony" by tsukinofaerii, "The Tower of Yesterday" by manic_intent, "This Time Tomorrow (where were we?)" by dorcas_gustine, and "Ghost in the Wires" by sororexitium.

Thank you!  This is quite a list.  Here are my thoughts so far:

Just finished W.I.P.E. by tsukinofaerii.  I’m about to rec the shit out of it.

I’d actually started reading Ghost in the Wires before, and I came very close to reccing it, but stopped short for some reason.  I’ve just finished a complete re-read, and it looks solid.  Rec coming soon.

The Tower of Yesterday looks impressive so far.  Haven’t finished it yet, but a rec is looking very likely.

I enjoyed the supernatural/horror elements in Sins of the Father.  Unfortunately, there were several lines of narrative and dialogue—lines with particular emphasis, even—that made it impossible for me to rec the fic overall, in spite of how delighted I was to read something with a genuinely interesting and exciting premise.

This Time Tomorrow seems perfectly lovely, but not having any real familiarity with Scarlet Witch or certain facets of comicverse, I think, hindered me from enjoying this as much as I should have.  I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m keeping it bookmarked for the time being.

Thanks hackle!
